With more than two decades at the forefront of the underground progressive-house scene, DJ Samer (Samer Salhab) is as essential to the genre as strawberries are to cream. Founder, A&R and resident tastemaker of the acclaimed imprint Pangea Recordings, his productions and the label’s catalogue are routinely charted by the scene’s elite—and his creative momentum shows no sign of slowing.
Samer’s journey began on the dance-floor at Club Simon’s in Gainesville, Florida. Inspired by marathon sets from visiting greats, the wide-eyed music devotee started building a collection of house, progressive and trance vinyl and teaching himself to DJ. A move to Tampa for university saw him quickly become a fixture in Ybor City’s nightlife.
A serendipitous meeting with mentor Bill Vines (The Maji) at Chakra Records accelerated everything. The pair formed the duo Evrydaydowners, launched Pangea Recordings and released their debut EP A New Beginning. By the early-2000s Pangea tracks were being championed by the likes of Sasha—culminating in Sasha dropping This World at WMC 2003—while Samer relocated to San Diego to broaden his horizons, opening for touring internationals. To accommodate a wider sonic palette he later launched sister labels Pangea UK and 1Shot Recordings.
The Pangea Recordings Podcast delivers his forward-thinking sound to thousands of monthly listeners worldwide, doubling as a launchpad for emerging talent and a barometer of progressive music’s cutting edge.
Entering his third decade behind the decks, DJ Samer remains propelled by the same passion that first lit up his weekends at Club Simon’s—only now he is shaping the scene he loves through his productions, his label family and his dance-floor-tested DJ sets across the globe.
